TOYOKAWA, AICHI, JAPAN―December 17, 2025―OSG Corporation today announced the launch of the CBN-FB2, a 2-flute CBN ball end mill designed for high-speed, high-precision finishing of hardened steel without requiring tool changes.
Precision mold machining often faces challenges such as short tool life, inconsistent accuracy from tool wear, quality variation due to tool replacement, and limited efficiency. Even minimal wear can affect finishing accuracy. The CBN-FB2 addresses these issues with a microrelief geometry that suppresses shape deformation caused by wear. Its superior ball R precision ensures accuracy, while a low spiral design balances cutting sharpness and rigidity. The ultra-high precision shank design provides stable machining accuracy, and its optimized length reduces deflection for maximum tool insertion depth in high-precision holders—eliminating the need to cut the shank. Made from sintered CBN for exceptional wear and heat resistance, the CBN-FB2 minimizes edge wear during high-speed machining, maintaining cutting precision over extended periods. This contributes to shorter lead times and improved operational efficiency.
The CBN-FB2 is available in radius sizes from R0.1 mm to R1.5 mm. Regrinding is offered for sizes R0.2 mm and above, supporting sustainability by extending tool life and reducing waste.
