TOYOKAWA―April 1, 2021―OSG Corporation today announced the release of two new milling innovations – the AM-HFC high feed radius type carbide end mill and the PXHF-AM exchangeable head end mill for additive manufacturing applications. Unlike conventional processing, where an object is formed by removing excessive materials, additive manufacturing deposits materials layer upon layer to create an object, which is a process similar to 3D printing. By utilizing 3D data, short delivery time and low production cost are made possible.

The AM-HFC and PXHF-AM are engineered to enable high feed milling of high-hardness additive manufacturing parts. The PXHF-AM is the exchangeable head version of the AM-HFC and shares identical tooling specifications.

The AM-HFC and PXHF-AM feature a composite radius cutting edge optimized for flat surface milling. With a large arc and corner R configuration, the AM-HFC and PXHF-AM’s robust cutting edge is able to withstand shapes with unstable depth of cut. Moreover, the AM-HFC and PXHF-AM’s flat cutting edge geometry suppresses chipping of the end cutting edge and enables good machined surface quality. The AM-HFC and PXHF-AM include a coolant hole to improve chip evacuation and prevent chips from getting tangled. Last but not least, the AM-HFC and PXHF-AM are coated with OSG’s original DUROREY coating optimized for high-hardness steel machining. The super heat resistant layer and ultra-fine periodic nano-layer structure of the DUROREY coating provides superior toughness while maintaining high heat resistance and abrasion resistance.
