OSG releases high-performance and low-carbon forming tap

TOYOKAWA―November 20, 2024―OSG Corporation today announced the release of its highly anticipated Green Tap GRT high-performance and low-carbon forming tap, engineered to reduce environmental impact while delivering optimal precision, making it a game-changer for sustainable manufacturing. Made by OSG’s new and original manufacturing method, GRT is a low-carbon product that reduces CO₂ emissions by decreasing power consumption during the manufacturing stage. By selecting high-performance and low-carbon products, tap users can contribute to the reduction of carbon footprint and the realization of a sustainable society.

The innovative design and construction of GRT are at the heart of its advancements. GRT features a special thread configuration (PAT. P) engineered to achieve both thread rigidity and lubrication effect. By supplying more coolant near the cutting edge where the most heat is generated, cooling effect is increased and durability is improved. To enhance rigidity, GRT is designed with a large web diameter, making it more resistant to tool breakage to achieve high durability without variation. Last but not least, GRT features a special thread specification designed using computer simulation of plastic deformation to enable the formation of good internal threads that will not collapse easily.

Creation of a Sustainable Future

GRT is a product engineered with sustainability in mind. By reducing power consumption in the manufacturing process, CO₂ emissions per tool during production can be reduced by 35 percent compared to conventional methods during the manufacturing of M6 x 1 size tap. Selecting GRT leads to a reduction in CO₂ emissions related to thread processing. Choosing environmentally friendly products contributes to the reduction of negative environmental impact. Moreover, high performance cutting tools help reduce power consumption and the generation of waste. Through enhanced tool longevity, waste and negative impact to the environment can be minimized. In addition, as a forming tap, which creates internal threads by plastic deformation of the material, GRT does not generate cutting chips during machining. When cutting chips are generated during threading, the machine may be stopped for chip removal. Electricity is consumed even when the machine is stopped. Therefore, the reduction of machine downtime is also an environmentally friendly initiative.
