A-XPF Forming Tap Series Expansion

OSG adds A-OIL-XPF with internal coolant holes compatible with mist machining to its A-XPF high-efficiency and multi-purpose forming tap series

TOYOKAWA―December 10, 2024―OSG Corporation today announced the expansion of its A-XPF forming tap series by adding the A-OIL-XPF with internal coolant holes.

Most tapping troubles are caused by unstable chip evacuation. The A-XPF forms threads by plastic deformation of the work material and does not generate cutting chips. The A-XPF enables the reduction of tool change time caused by cutting chip troubles and machine downtime required for removing accumulated cutting chips. Furthermore, by enabling stable and uninterrupted machining, power consumption can be reduced, which minimizes environmental impact.

The A-XPF features a special chamfer specification (pat. in Japan) for achieving low thrust. Its special thread configuration (pat. in Japan) improves cutting edge rigidity, making it less prong to chipping. The A-XPF is made of powder metallurgy HSS (CPM) with high wear resistance. With the addition of OSG’s VI coating (pat. pending in Japan), tool life can be further enhanced.

The A-XPF series’ large diameter sizes of M18 to M24 can accommodate the machining of large components. Moreover, its short chamfer type (length of chamfer: 1P) M1 to M6 are ideal for the machining of small precision parts that are becoming thinner and lighter with little room for pre-hole. The newly added A-OIL-XPF with internal coolant holes is compatible with mist machining. Mist coolant cutting eliminates the need for oil disposal, which helps reduce waste. Furthermore, there is also less scattering of cutting oil, which leads to an improved work environment.

The A-XPF is an innovative product series that excels in a wide range of work materials and cutting conditions with improved productivity. It is suitable for carbon steel, alloy steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, copper, brass, aluminum, zinc, and more. Standard specification is available from sizes M1 to M24. Short chamfer type is available from sizes M1 to M6. The newly added internal coolant type is available from sizes M5 to M16.
