OSG Introduces A-SFT-SUS Spiral Flute Tap for Stainless Steel
TOYOKAWA, AICHI, JAPAN―March 25, 2026―OSG Corporation today announced the release of the A-SFT-SUS, a spiral flute tap engineered to deliver stable, high‑efficiency threading in stainless steel applications.

Chip entanglement is a primary cause of reduced tapping efficiency in stainless steel. When machining tough, ductile materials, chips tend to wrap around the tool, leading to tap chipping and breakage, poor thread accuracy, and surface scratches from chip friction. These issues often require machine stoppages, manual chip removal, and rework—lowering productivity and complicating automation efforts. The new A-SFT-SUS is specifically designed to address these challenges. Its newly developed flute geometry improves chip evacuation by creating additional space for chips to flow, preventing chip adhesion on the heel. An optimized shank length further suppresses chip entanglement. Combined with OSG’s next-generation VI coating—engineered exclusively for taps—the tool delivers long, consistent tool life even in demanding machining environments.

Unstable chip evacuation remains one of the most persistent challenges in stainless steel machining. By minimizing chip‑related interruptions, the A‑SFT‑SUS helps reduce machine downtime, increase productivity, and support labor savings. Its extended tool life further lessens the frequency of tool changes, improving overall operational efficiency and contributing to lower energy consumption and more sustainable manufacturing.
The A-SFT-SUS is available in sizes M3 through M12. While optimized for stainless steel, its versatility extends to medium and high carbon steels, alloy steels, mild steel, and aluminum.
