Stable High-Feed Machining Powered by Superior Cutting Edge Strength

OSG Introduces Phoenix PHCW Indexable Double-Sided High-Feed Radius Cutter

TOYOKAWA, AICHI, JAPAN—May 20, 2026—OSG Corporation today announced the launch of the Phoenix PHCW series, an indexable double‑sided high‑feed radius cutter engineered to reduce mold roughing time with high cutting edge strength and strong resistance to chipping.

In mold machining, productivity is often limited by chipping or insert failure caused by fluctuating stock conditions, intermittent cutting and long tool overhangs. The PHCW addresses these challenges with a reinforced cutting edge that improves breakage resistance while lowering cutting forces, enabling stable high‑feed machining.

The cutter’s durable edge supports shorter cycle times and consistent performance in demanding operations, including intermittent cutting and extended overhangs. Optimized insert geometry combines high strength with low cutting resistance through a simulated radius, a thick, rigid insert design and a large‑rake chip breaker. A multi‑insert cutter body further enhances productivity. Double‑sided inserts with four usable edges improve cost efficiency, while internal coolant holes in the cutter body aid chip evacuation for stable, reliable machining.

The PHCW is available in straight‑shank and screw‑fit styles. Three insert grades — XC3030, XP3035 and XP2040 — cover a broad range of materials. XC3030 and XP3035 are optimized for steel and cast iron. XP2040 is suited for steel, stainless steel, Inconel, titanium alloys, pre‑hardened steel and die‑casting applications.
