OSG Introduces A-SFT-AL Spiral Flute Tap for Aluminum Alloys

TOYOKAWA, AICHI, JAPAN―July 15, 2026―OSG Corporation today announced the release of the A-SFT-AL, a spiral flute tap engineered to deliver stable, high‑efficiency threading in aluminum applications.

Chip entanglement is a leading cause of reduced tapping efficiency. When machining highly ductile aluminum alloys, chips can wrap around the tool, resulting in chipping and breakage, diminished thread accuracy, and surface damage caused by chip friction. These issues often require machine stoppages, manual chip removal and rework, reducing productivity and hindering automation. The A-SFT-AL is designed to address these challenges.

The tool features a unique cutting geometry that promotes sharp cutting performance, smooth chip evacuation and high rigidity tailored for aluminum machining. An optimized shank length further reduces chip entanglement. Combined with OSG’s V coating, the A-SFT-AL delivers consistent, long tool life to support uninterrupted machining. The tap is available in sizes M2 through M12.

Unstable chip evacuation remains a persistent challenge in tapping operations. By minimizing chip-related interruptions, the A-SFT-AL helps reduce machine downtime, increase productivity and support labor savings. Its extended tool life also reduces the frequency of tool changes, improving operational efficiency while contributing to lower energy consumption and more sustainable manufacturing.
