TOYOKAWA―October 23, 2019―OSG Corporation today announced the release of a new carbide end mill series with three types of ball end mills – the AE-BM-H, AE-BD-H and AE-LNBD-H, to accommodate a wide range of applications and milling methods in high-hardness steels with superior performance.

The AE-BM-H is a 4-flute carbide ball end mill designed for high-efficiency processing of high-hardness steels. It features a sharp spiral curve for reducing cutting resistance, allowing stable performance with extended tool life. The AE-BM-H’s center 2-flute specification helps control tear when milling flat areas to improve surface accuracy. This geometry also contributes to better control of the clogging of chips with sufficient chip pocket room for evacuation. The AE-BM-H’s superior ball R precision makes it suitable for both roughing and semi-roughing. Last but not least, the AE-BM-H’s unequal flute spacing geometry enables greater control of harmonic vibration commonly generated during milling with multiple flutes, thereby allowing higher efficiency milling. The AE-BM-H is available from R1 to R6, with a total of eight items.

The AE-BD-H is a 2-flute carbide ball end mill designed for high-precision finishing in high-hardness steels. It features a variable negative spiral gash for better chipping control. Moreover, the AE-BD-H’s thick center core helps prevent deformation of the ball tip to improve chipping control. The AE-BD-H’s superior ball R precision ensures a stable radius accuracy across 180 degrees. Furthermore, the AE-BD-H is engineered with superior shank accuracy that supports h4 tolerance (0/-0.004). Its short shank type lineup is most suitable for shrink fit holders. Last but not least, a smooth surface treatment on the AE-BD-H helps improve surface accuracy. The AE-BD-H is available from R0.5 to R6, with a total of 17 items.

The AE-LNBD-H is a 2-flute long neck carbide ball end mill designed for high-precision finishing in high-hardness steels. Similar to the AE-BD-H, it also features a thick center core to help prevent deformation of the ball tip to improve chipping control. The AE-LNBD-H’s superior ball R precision ensures a stable radius accuracy across 180 degrees. Its teardrop-shaped outer periphery strong back taper geometry enables milling by point, which prevents chattering and chipping, resulting in improvement of surface accuracy. Furthermore, the AE-LNBD-H is engineered with superior shank accuracy that supports h4 tolerance (0/-0.004). Last but not least, a smooth surface treatment on the AE-LNBD-H (R0.3 or above) helps improve surface accuracy. On sale from February 2020, the AE-LNBD-H is available from R0.05 to R3, with a total of 261 items to accommodate a wide range of applications.
This carbide ball end mill series is coated with OSG’s original DUROREY coating with superior heat resistance and high-toughness optimized for high-hardness steel milling.
