OSG Introduces ZERO-GT High-Performance Micro-Chamfer Forming Tap
TOYOKAWA, Aichi, Japan, Nov. 5, 2026 — OSG Corporation today announced the release of the ZERO-GT, a high-performance micro-chamfer forming tap designed to minimize clearance at the bottom of blind holes and enable thinner, lighter-weight component designs. Featuring the shortest lead section in OSG’s history, the ZERO-GT allows threads to be formed as close as possible to the bottom of a blind hole, maximizing usable thread depth and expanding design possibilities for compact components.
As demand continues to grow for lightweight and thin-wall components, reducing unused space within threaded holes has become increasingly important. Conventional taps often leave an incomplete thread section at the hole bottom, limiting design flexibility and making it more difficult to reduce component thickness. The ZERO-GT minimizes the incomplete thread length to virtually zero, enabling compact component designs and supporting overall weight reduction. When used with the ADF Flat Drill, the incomplete thread section can be reduced even further, making the ZERO-GT an ideal solution for ultra-thin component applications.
Despite its extremely short chamfer length, the ZERO-GT delivers exceptional durability through OSG’s proprietary design and manufacturing technologies. A large web diameter enhances resistance to breakage, while an advanced multi-lobed chamfer design distributes cutting loads during thread engagement, where machining forces are highest. The tool also incorporates a special helix design that combines stable thread quality with outstanding durability, helping challenge the conventional belief that short-chamfer taps must sacrifice tool life.
To further enhance performance, the ZERO-GT is equipped with OSG’s highly wear-resistant V Coating, providing excellent wear resistance and long tool life in demanding production environments.
